At Parkers Executive Chauffeurs we are always pleased to be involved in new ground-breaking projects. Last Thursday's announcement by Nissan and global green tech company Envision AESC, that they will invest £1 billion in a new battery gigafactory in Sunderland is a massive vote of confidence for the region. To be asked to look after some visiting VIP’s to this important event, also attended by the Prime Minister, was certainly an honour for us, particularly given our interest in helping to protect the environment through our own carbon offset scheme. This we plan to follow up on with the introduction of a new hybrid vehicle to our fleet in the next few weeks and an all electric addition early in the New Year. This represents our own significant investment and efforts to reduce our own carbon emissions. It is anticipated that this new investment will create around 1650 jobs at the Nissan/Envision hub and another 4500 in the supply chain, as demand for electric vehicles increases in the coming years. The new plant will initially produce 9 GWh/year, but this is expected to increase to up to 35 GWh with investment destined to reach £1.8 billion by 2030. This will be helped by the announcement by Nissan of a new “all-electric crossover model”, also to be manufactured at the Sunderland plant.
